Armstrong Composites In Modern Manufacturing

In today’s rapidly evolving manufacturing landscape, the use of composites has become extremely popular and is a game-changing solution where there is a requirement for lightweight, robust and cost effective materials. Composites are a combination of two or more materials with distinct properties, offering a host of advantages over traditional manufacturing materials such as metals and plastics.

Working with our customers, including some of the world’s largest businesses operating in the rail, modular construction and automotive industries, Armstrong is using the team’s expertise in composite material applications to provide innovative solutions on a wide range of  projects. The ultimate aim is the enhancement of our customer’s brands and reputations, and through developing our customer relationships and investing in the on-going personal development of our employees at all levels within the business, we can drive our manufacturing capabilities into the future and keep pushing the boundaries of possibility.

Our Composites Manufacturing Capabilities

Our Composites Manufacturing Capabilities

CARBON FIBRE

Carbon Fibre properties, such as its light weight, high strength and design flexibility, have unlocked new possibilities in many industry sectors for the Armstrong Composites team. The cost-effectiveness of its production is constantly improving, further widening its scope for adoption and bringing about a greener, more efficient future.

AUTOCLAVES

The Autoclaves used by Armstrong in the process of composite component production, are Aeroform units with an inner diameter of 2m and a working length of 8m, operating at temperatures of 200 degrees Celsius and pressures of up to 10 bar.

PREPREG LAMINATION

Prepreg lamination offers several advantages when producing carbon fibre components at Armstrong, including precise fibre alignment, controlled resin-to-fibre ratio, consistent quality of the end product and the ability to produce complex and lightweight structures with high strength-to-weight ratios.

SUSTAINABLE COMPOSITES

At Armstrong, we endeavour to use sustainable composites wherever possible due to their potential to reduce our overall carbon footprint. These composites are specially engineered materials that combine two or more components, where at least one of these is derived from renewable or recycled resources.

CNC MACHINING

Our expert team have extensive experience in the CNC machining of composite materials. The process is very different from conventional machining of metals. Cutting speeds and tools have to be rigorously tested and monitored to ensure precision of finished components.

LACQUER & PAINTING

Lacquering and Painting of composite materials requires a different set of skills and considerations from that for metals and plastics. The Armstrong Composites team use a combination of refined skills and state of the art equipment to achieve the very best lacquered or painted finishes.
